End of an Era

I have to admit that I was one of those people who expressed dismay upon hearing of Manny Pacquiao’s loss via split decision to Timothy Bradley. Frankly, I didn’t even know who Timothy Bradley was… I doubt most of us did. People have become too focused on Manny’s possible bout with Floyd they’ve completely underestimated the undefeated American boxer, something which has proven to have been a bane, and not a boon for boxing fans and Filipinos as well.

Personally, I’m glad to see that Manny has taken it so well, despite the disappointing decision having ended his seven-year winning streak. It shows that he’s still a good sport in the end, despite his triumphs both in the world of sports and financially as well. Kudos to him for that! He didn’t even contest the decision himself and he probably considers himself lucky that a lot of people have come forward to uphold his honor and to uphold boxing as a sport. As Filipinos, let’s just hope the very best for our pambansang kamao in his future fights. Manny may have a number of questionable flaws as a politician, but I can honestly say that his true talent definitely lies in his first love: boxing.
